Shirley Anne Klinge Wood, 87, passed away peacefully on January 28th. She was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on 09/12/1929 to Onamarion Newgent Klinge and Ernst Albert Klinge. She graduated from Arsenal Technical High School and then from Butler University with a BA degree in Liberal Arts (French and English Majors). She served as President of Student Union and Delta Delta Delta sorority. She worked as Office Manager for the Indianapolis Jaycees until she married in 1959.
Shirley loved spending time with her family, especially weekends at the lake with all her extended family members. She made life-long friends as a member of Homemaker’s club and worked in the Marketing Department and as a Manager of Customer Assistance at United Student Aid Funds, from which she retired in 1994. She was a very talented artist and to get one of her paintings or pastels has always been considered an honor. She was devoted to her family, friends, and to her neighbors. She was an active member at Christ Lutheran Church and enjoyed teaching art classes there.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Charles William Clayburn Klinge, known as Bus (wife Marilyn).
She is survived by her husband Fred Harrison Wood; children Anne Denise Wood Hickman (husband Fred), David Michael Wood (wife Gail), Lea Wood Evans, Gregg Harrison Wood (wife Vickie), and Tracy Glen Wood (wife Cindy); 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
