On the morning of August 1, 2024, Sherry Ann McMillan Ballard, aged 67, was called away to dance with the angels in Heaven. Most know, but she had a lengthy stay at St. Vincent hospital and ICU before being transferred to Meadow Lakes rehabilitation center where her life abruptly ended due to breathing complications and heart issues.
Sherry was born June 22, 1957, in Indianapolis to Clyde B and Patricia Ann. As she always dubbed the Norman Rockwell life, Sherry spent her childhood growing up in Eagledale in the quintessential picturesque family tormenting her older brother Mike. She spent her formidable years growing up Catholic attending St. Michael grade school, ultimately graduating from Cardinal Ritter High School. After graduating she worked several different jobs, which led her to find her husband Derek at Walts grocery store. Obviously, they ended up marrying and had two children, Michael and Steven.
Sherry spent the following years helping shape her two boys, as well as everyone around her through love, faith, acceptance, humility, and gratitude. She was an active member of St. Michael and Cardinal Ritter while the boys were growing up, and the Catholic Archdiocese for about 16 years where she worked as an administrator, coordinator, and college mom to students at the Butler and IUPUI Newman centers. Sherry always said those two places brought about a lot of happy memories for her.
I have a very lengthy list and there is so much I could write, but the life, love, and memories of Sherry cannot even begin to be summed up in an obituary or a eulogy for that matter, because words would not do them any justice. Instead, they are forever imprinted in the minds and souls of those fortunate enough to share them with her. May we relish in them and hold them close to our hearts until she can hug us again.
Sherry is preceded in death by her father Clyde, mother Patricia, brother Mike, son Michael, niece/daughter Kristen and many more too long to list. She is survived by husband Derek, son Steven, daughter in law Nikki, grandson Collin (Chloe Rasner), grandson Caleb, and great grandchildren Amelia and Aycen.
“Perhaps they are not stars in the sky, but rather openings where our loved ones shine down to let us know they are happy.” Eskimo Proverb
We will forever set our sights to the nights skies searching for your light. We love you as high as the sky and as deep as the ocean for now and always!
