Sherry A. Baker

January 27, 1951 — December 16, 2025

Carmel, Indiana

Sherry A. (Benson) Baker, 74, of Carmel, Indiana, passed away on December 16, 2025. Sherry was born on January 27, 1951, in Anderson, Indiana, to parents, John Roberts Benson and Lois Eileen (Wampole) Powell. She married Bob (Robert M. Baker III) on August 17, 1973, in the back-yard of Bob’s parent’s home in Anderson, Indiana. They survived an 8-year courtship (high school & college) and then enjoyed a truly wonderful, adventure-filled 52-year marriage.

After high school Sherry attended and graduated with a BS from the Teachers College at Ball State University. Sherry’s teaching portfolio included pre-school teacher, grade-school teacher’s aide, grade-school teacher and finally, full-time parental tutor for two very special children.

While Sherry held several other jobs over the years, her main vocation was full-time mom, and then later she defaulted to an un-paid legal assistant position for an attorney.

Sherry lived her strong Christian faith throughout her life. She would regularly read the Word and journal about her faith, teach about Jesus in both Catholic and Christian schools and actively participated in and led numerous Bible study groups. She led as both a freelancer and through organized Bible study groups, especially at Creative Living Bible Study. Sherry truly inspired the Word of the Lord to women across Indiana. Sherry especially loved inviting her grandchildren to her Creative Living sessions, starting at just three years old, where they learned about Jesus through classes, like the Monkey Class.

Sherry and Bob attended several Catholic and Christian churches over the years before discovering and then becoming members at Community Bible Fellowship Church in Westfield, Indiana.

During her free time, you could catch Sherry enjoying outdoor activities with Bob, especially tennis and golf. The couple also loved traveling, especially overseas. At first their mode-of-travel included Bob’s favorite, hitchhiking, but Sherry’s common sense did prevail, and they eventually utilized more conventional modes. Their favorite trips included a number of visits to Italy and Ireland, where they enjoyed the vast scenery, the native food and of course, the local wine, or a Guinness. While Sherry and Bob spent much of the cooler times of the year at their second home in sunny Naples, Florida, they would also spend time during the summers in a special 150 year-old cottage in New London, New Hampshire.

When home, number one for Sherry was spending time with, you guessed it, her family. When Rob and Katie were younger, Sherry would attend all their sporting events, proudly cheering them on. Sherry also spent as much time possible with her 3 grandchildren, from going to the Children's Museum weekly as toddlers, to visiting their schools, and later attending their school and sporting events.

Sherry is survived by loving husband, Bob; her children, Rob (Michelle) Baker, Katie Baker; grandchildren, Robert “Quentin” Baker, Josephine Baker, Emmett Baker; brother, Robert (Julie) Benson; sister-in-law, Cindy Kincaid (Dan Kincaid, preceded 2016); nieces, Whitney Kincaid, Ashley (Bryden) Cory, and Kelsey (Adam) Kamykowski. Sherry is also survived by her very-favorite furry companion, her micro-Berne doodle, Gracie. Woof!

Sherry will be missed deeply by her family and friends, who find comfort in knowing she is now in her Lord’s presence surrounded by eternal love.
