Shaunta Marie Ellis-Norwood-Kruse

July 16, 1979 — June 10, 2025

Indianapolis

Shaunta Marie Ellis-Norwood, 45, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away on June 10, 2025. Born on July 16, 1979, in Louisville, Kentucky, Shaunta lived a life marked by compassion, creativity, and unwavering devotion to her family and faith.

A proud graduate of Warren Central High School in 1997, Shaunta went on to pursue her passion for helping others by earning an Associate Degree in Nursing from Medtech. Her love for nursing was more than a profession - it was a calling. She found deep fulfillment in caring for others and brought comfort and healing to many through her work.

Shaunta was known as the "Best Cook" & "Crafter" of the family. Whether it was a homemade meal, a handmade gift or a creative solution to a problem, if someone needed it - she could make it. Her hands were rarely still, always busy cooking & creating something beautiful or meaningful for those she loved.

Her greatest joy came from her family. Shaunta shared her life with her husband and soulmate, Garrison Kruse. She was a devoted mother to her children: Ny'Shawn Ellis-Poole (deceased), Jai'Lyn Norwood, Byron (BJ) Norwood II, and stepson Elijah Kruse. The loss of her beloved daughter Ny'Shawn Patrice Ellis-Poole was a profound sorrow that she carried with grace and strength. Her faith in God sustained her through that heartbreak and gave her peace in knowing they would be reunited.

Shaunta is also remembered with love by her mother Belinda Sue Hooks (Brian), father Gerald Ellis (Glenda), sister Kandis Pearson (Robert), brother Jarrel Ellis, stepbrother Reese Hooks (Marquice), and paternal grandparents Paul and Rosetta Gaines. She leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews who cherished their time with her.

She also shared close bonds with her sisters-in-love: Jackie Nield; Jessi Brown (Maurice); Amanda Madore (Brian); and Lindsay Terry-Martin (Will). Their connection was one of mutual support and affection.

Shaunta was preceded in death by her daughter Ny'Shawn Patrice Ellis-Poole; maternal grandparents Luke and Mary Neal; and paternal great-grandmother Margaret Tate.

Those who knew Shaunta will remember her as a woman of deep faith whose strength radiated through every challenge she faced. Her belief in God guided her journey through life's joys and sorrows alike. As we mourn the loss of such a vibrant soul, we take comfort in knowing that she is now resting peacefully with her daughter in eternal life.

May Shaunta's memory bring comfort to all who knew and loved her.
