Sharon L. Leenhouts, 69, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2026, with a smile on her face. It was a fitting farewell from a woman whose joy was contagious and whose door, and table, were open to everyone.
Sharon was born March 15, 1957, in Des Moines, Iowa, and raised in Columbus, Ohio, where she attended the Columbus School for Girls. She graduated from Colorado College and earned her Master of Health Services Administration (MHSA) from the University of Michigan. Professionally, she dedicated her career to medical informatics and founded her own company, Medasol (Medical Data Solutions).
She raised her family in Midland, Michigan, a community she loved deeply, and gave back to it tirelessly, serving on the boards of Rotary, Adoption Option, and Do-All Inc. Closest to her heart was her work with the Epilepsy Foundation of Michigan, where she served on the board and founded the Midland Stroll for Epilepsy.
Above all, Sharon had a gift for bringing people together. She never met a stranger, and she had a rare talent for making everyone at her table feel welcome, valued, and well-fed. There was always room for one more. She loved to cook, and her legacy in the kitchen was the Italian cooking of her family heritage, handed down from her mother and grandmother and carried on with pride. Her homes were filled with conversation, laughter, and good food, and her friendships stretched across every place life took her. Endlessly curious and always in motion, she loved to travel, and she filled her seasons with yoga, skiing, running, biking, gardening, reading, hiking, boating, and countless other adventures, summer and winter alike. Her grandchildren, meanwhile, knew her true superpower: being fully present with them in all things, whether arts and crafts, playing games, cooking, adventuring, or simply conversation.
Family was the center of her world. In recent years she chose to live near the people she loved most, keeping a home in Noblesville, Indiana, near her son and grandchildren, and purchasing a home in Colorado to be close to her daughter and grandchild. She did not postpone joy. She lived each day fully and intentionally, and in doing so she taught her family lasting lessons: how to gather community, how to be a good friend, how to include everyone and forgive easily, how to help others and expect nothing in return, and how to hold family above everything. Those lessons are her legacy, and they live on in everyone who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents and several dear aunts, uncles, and cousins. She is survived by her son, Peter, and his wife, Teresa; her daughter, Katie, and her husband, Anand; and her cherished grandchildren, Charles, James, Margot, and Kiran.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, August 1, 2026, at Memorial Presbyterian Church in Midland, Michigan, with visitation from 10:00 to 11:00 AM and a service at 11:00 AM. Afterward, family and friends are warmly invited to continue the celebration at Sharon's home in Midland, a place where so many memories were made, and where all were always welcome.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Sharon's name to the Epilepsy Foundation of Michigan, in honor of her steadfast dedication to its mission.
