Sharon Kay Butler, 81, of Danville, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2025. Born on March 16, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Jackson B. Thomas and Gladys B. (Blackwell) Thomas. Sharon will forever be remembered for the enduring love she shared with her husband, Robert E. “Bob” Butler, with whom she spent 50 beautiful years of marriage, having united in love on February 17, 1962.
Sharon was visually and legally blind for much of her life, but that did not stop her from achieving great things. In 1981, she and her husband, Bob, started a successful Gardening and Landscaping business, the Butler Garden Center in Danville, IN, after Sharon earned her Master's Gardener degree from Purdue University. Sharon was deeply passionate about gardening and her business was a reflection of her commitment and love for nature.
Sharon was also an avid bowler, competing in local tournaments throughout the city. She truly loved spending time with her family and friends and was known for her kindness, warmth, and devotion to those she cared about. Sharon’s life was a testament to perseverance, dedication, and the power of a loving heart.
A devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Sharon's family was her greatest joy. She had a deep love for her community and was a long-time member of Crooked Creek Baptist Church. Sharon cherished her years as a proud graduate and alumni of North Central High School and always valued education and lifelong learning.
She leaves to cherish her memories her sons, Robert L. Butler (Cynthia) of Danville, IN and Thomas E. Butler (Dorothy) of Crawfordsville, IN; her sister, Patricia Taylor; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and a host of loving family and friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 17, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Flanner Buchanan-Washington Park North, 2706 Kessler Blvd West Drive, Indianapolis. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 PM. The burial will take place at St. Malachy North Cemetery in Brownsburg, IN.
Sharon’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved her.
