Sharla Kay Woods

Sharla Kay Woods, 69, of Fishers, Indiana, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2026.

Sharla was born on November 12, 1956, in Iowa City, Iowa, to Barbara Kennedy and Harold Roddy. She graduated from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, with a Bachelor of Arts degree and later earned a Master of Arts degree from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. Sharla devoted more than 30 years of dedicated service to the Department of Defense, where she worked as a Classification Specialist.

Sharla had a love of travel and treasured the time she shared with family and friends. She will be especially remembered for her deep love of animals and her compassionate heart. Throughout her life, Sharla helped countless rescue animals find loving homes. Whenever a dog or cat touched her heart, she welcomed them into her own home, providing them with the safety, care, and unconditional love they needed.

A devout Catholic, Sharla cherished her faith and was a faithful member of St. Monica Catholic Church, where she regularly attended Mass. She generously supported charitable causes sponsored by her church and believed deeply in helping those in need. Her compassion extended to both family and friends, and she lived her faith through acts of kindness and generosity.

Above all, family was at the center of Sharla’s life. She dearly loved her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, extended family, and many dear friends. The love she gave so freely will remain a lasting part of the lives of all who knew her.

She is survived by her children, Lamarr Woods, Michael (Dayna) Woods, Brittany (Angie) Marte-Woods, and Christopher Woods; her siblings, Virgil Roddy, Karl Roddy, David Roddy, and Mishon Roddy; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Sharla was preceded in death by her husband, Jeffrey Woods, and her parents, Barbara Kennedy and Harold Roddy.

A memorial gathering will be held at St. Monica Catholic Church, 6131 Michigan Road, Indianapolis, IN 46228, on Friday, September 11, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed by Funeral Mass, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Arrangements entrusted to Flanner Buchanan - Geist.

In accordance with Sharla’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and a private family committal service will be held after the Funeral Mass.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Catholic Charities of Indianapolis or the Humane Society of Indianapolis (IndyHumane) in honor of Sharla’s compassionate spirit and her love for people and animals.

Sharla will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
