Savannah Wright

April 4, 1919 — October 19, 2013

Savannah Wright began her journey on April 4, 1919 in Cedar Bluff, Mississippi. Savannah was the youngest of eight children to the late Charles and Roseanna Bates. At a young age, she confessed her life to Christ at Hopewell Baptist Church in Cedar Bluff. In 1946, she joined in union to Preacher Chandler and with this union they had one child, LuRene. Later on in life, Savannah relocated to Indianapolis, Indiana to be with family and to have a better way of life. In 1958, she joined in union to Ernest Wright, but they didn't have any kids. Savannah spent most of her life as a domestic worker. After working long hours tending to someone else's house, she would come home and make sure everything was in order there. Savannah was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother who loved the Lord. She joined Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church shortly after moving here where she attended Sunday service regularly. She enjoyed hearing the choir sang and hearing the word of GOD, Her granddaughter, Renee remembers Savannah singing gospel songs in the kitchen while making her famous Chicken and Dumplings. During her free time Savannah enjoyed crocheting and having a garden. She planted tomatoes, carrots, cucumbers, cabbage, beans, and okra. She loved to cook and one of her favorites was Banana Nut Bread. The latter part of Savannah's life was spent being cared for at Eagle Valley Meadows nursing home. At 5:15pm on October 19, 2013, the Lord eased Savannah Wright's pain and suffering and she went peacefully in her sleep to be with the Lord. Savannah was ninety-four years old. The loved ones who have preceded her through the call of the Lord where her parents, Charles and Roseanna Bates; sisters, Ellion Ford, Ida Mae McDaniel; brothers, General Sherman Bates, Claude Thomas Bates, Charles Walter Bates, Sylvester Bates. Savannah leaves a lot of love and memories to last a lifetime for her family and friends to cherish. Savannah leaves her daughter, LuRene Chandler; sister, Anna Reader; granddaughter, Renee Chandler; great-grandson, Jalen Chandler and host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
