Saundra Marie Burns Henderson’s
Obituary

Saundra Marie Burns Henderson, daughter of the late Albert C. Burns and Minnie Saunders Allen Burns, was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on September 22, 1953, and transitioned to be with the Lord on June 2, 2023.

Saundra received her education in the public schools of Philadelphia, graduating from Overbook High School and Philadelphia Business Institute. After attending Strayer University and Ivy Tech Community College in Indiana, she received certification as a Medical Assistant.

Sandy, as she was affectionately called by family and friends, accepted Christ as her personal Savior at the age of 12 and was baptized into the fellowship of Vine Memorial Baptist Church in Philadelphia where she served as a Sunday School Teacher, member of the Young Adult Choir, the Junior Hospitality Club, Youth Fellowship, and the Junior Flower Club. Thus began a long life dedicated to Christ and her family. As her life’s journeys allowed her to live in New Jersey, Virginia, Georgia and Indiana, she always remained in church and worked faithfully at Holy Light Church of Jesus Christ, Burlington, New Jersey, where she organized the Single Parent Ministry, Calvary Revival Church, Norfolk, Virginia as a member of the choir, Office Manager in the church office and Administrative Assistant to the Youth Pastor, Kingdom Metropolitan Worship Center, Columbus, Georgia as a member of the choir and Administrative Assistant of the Kingdom Christian Academy and sister churches Eastern Star Church and The Heartland Church in Fishers, Indiana.

Before retirement, Sandy was employed as an Administrative Assistant at FMC Corporation, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Mt. Holly Township, Mt. Holly, New Jersey as Administrative Assistant for the Township Director, and Kimley-Horn & Associates, Chesapeake, Virginia. After a career change to medical field, she was employed at Hughston Orthopedic Clinic in Columbus, Georgia, Hematology-Oncology of Indiana, Indianapolis, Indiana and Carmel Pediatrics, Carmel, Indiana. Before retiring in 2016.

Upon relocating to Fishers, Indiana, Sandy met and was united in marriage to Retired Army Sergeant Major Lorenzo John Henderson on December 21, 2013 and had the privilege of sharing 7 ½ years with her beloved Lorenzo before he transitioned to be with the Lord in 2021.

Once you met Sandy, you would quickly learn that she loved the Lord, always strived to live right according to the Word of the Lord and was concerned for other people. She always loved the opportunity to share an encouraging word from the Lord to anyone who would receive. She was a true and loyal friend, meticulous in appearance, caring, compassionate, strong in her beliefs, a great organizer and absolutely love her family with all of her heart.

Sandy leaves to cherish precious memories her daughter, Marleisa Michelle Brunson, (son-in-law Franklin), her son Dr. Alexander C. Sutton, Ph. D, grandchildren: Jordan Brunson, Jaszmyne Brunson, Chailyn Brunson, Destyni Brunson, Arione Sutton, Aaron Sutton, and great grandsons: Taleb Fazel, III, Ryder Sutton, as well as dear cousins, nephews, nieces and friends.
