Sarah Beth Lasbury

July 22, 1947 — July 22, 2025

Westfield

Sarah Beth Lasbury, 78, of Westfield, Indiana, passed away unexpectedly on July 22, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, compassion, and unwavering dedication to family, friends, and community.

Born on July 22, 1947, in Winchester, Indiana, Sarah was one of six children—five sisters and one brother. She grew up on a humble 80-acre farm in rural Indiana, where her early years instilled in her the values that would define her life: hard work, family, and an appreciation for life’s simple joys. Her parents, Pat and Audrey Murphy, taught her the meaning of sacrifice, integrity, and unconditional love. Sarah often fondly recalled her childhood spent playing with her sisters and cousins, cherishing those carefree days.

Sarah was valedictorian of her class at Driver High School and went on to earn a scholarship to Indiana University, where she received her bachelor’s degree in medical record administration. During her time at IU, she met the love of her life, Tom Lasbury. They married in 1968 and shared 35 wonderful years together until Tom’s passing in 2004. The couple settled in Munster, Indiana, where they raised their daughter, Nora, and built a warm, joyful home.

A devoted mother, Sarah filled Nora’s childhood with love, laughter, and memorable traditions—from baking cookies and shopping trips to frequent walks to the park. Later, she embraced the role of grandmother with the same deep affection, ensuring her grandchildren always felt valued, supported, and adored. Sarah’s greatest joy came from time spent with family, especially during holidays, game nights, and home-cooked meals around a full table.

Professionally, Sarah was deeply respected in the field of health information management. She began her career at St. Margaret’s Hospital in Hammond and later served as Director of Health Information Resources at Community Hospital in Munster. A lifelong learner, she earned her master’s degree in public administration in May 2000. Known for her humility, servant leadership, and strong work ethic, Sarah made lasting friendships with colleagues throughout her career.

Her service extended well beyond the workplace. Sarah was an active member of several organizations, including the Dyer Jaycee Women, Business and Professional Women of Hammond, Munster Education Foundation, and multiple committees at Ridge United Methodist Church and St. Mark’s United Methodist Church. She was also a lifetime member of the Indiana University Alumni Association, a board member of the Villages of Oak Manor, and a proud supporter of scholarships for the IU Luddy School of Informatics.

Above all, Sarah will be remembered for her kindness, warmth, and unwavering support for those around her. She was the first to offer a helping hand, a listening ear, or a word of encouragement. Her life was full—by her own words—thanks to the love of her family and many dear friends.

Sarah is survived by her daughter, Nora Hay; son-in-law, Matt Hay; and beloved grandchildren Luke, Maddie, and Katelyn, all of Westfield, IN. She is also survived by her sisters Carolyn Speakman (Carmel, IN), Elaine Mondlock (Glenview, IL), and Jane (Paul) Brumley (Winchester, IN); and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Lasbury; her parents, Pat and Audrey Murphy; her sister, Ann (Dale) Huston; and her brother, Myron Murphy.

A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Monday, August 4, 2025, at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 4780 E. 126th Street, Carmel, IN 46033, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 p.m. A private burial for immediate family will take place at Buena Vista Cemetery in Farmland, IN.
