Sandra Young

September 27, 1941 — May 26, 2012

Sandra Louise Young was born in Indianapolis on September 27, 1941 to Flora and Bob Brawner. She suffered a heart attack and died at Community East Hospital on May 26, 2012. Sandy was a proud member of the Broad Ripple High School Class of 1959. After graduation from Ball State University, she taught English at Monmouth High School, worked in Public Relations at Clowes Hall, and was an editor at the Allen Smith Publishing Company until her retirement in 1979. She later worked as a secretary at Community Incentives, PAI, and Northwest High School. She married Dave Young, who survives, in 1973. Other survivors are cousins, Steve (Ruth) Williams, Michael (Julie) Williams, Myra (Jack) McKenna, Harry (Pauline) Williams, Sherry Williams and Johnny Ferree. She also leaves behind a host of good friends and her mutt, Dutch. She was fortunate to have had a wonderful friend and helper, Claudia, at the end of her life. Sandy was gifted with a marvelous sense of humor and a love for show business, old movies, music and popular fiction-particularly detective novels. As a member of the Columbia Club, Sandy was a huge fan of the Cabaret at the Columbia Club. Raised in a large extended family, she lived almost all of her life in or near Broad Ripple. She loved jazz and good food and always looked forward to annual trips to New Orleans. Friends and family may call at Flanner and Buchanan- Broad Ripple, 1305 Broad Ripple Ave., Tuesday, June 5, 2012 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. She was cremated and there will be no funeral service. Flowers would be appreciated, but donations to the Indianapolis Humane Society or the Cabaret at the Columbia Club would be even nicer. You are invited to go to the Guest Book page to pass along your personal message or tell a story. Sincerely, -Your friends at Flanner and Buchanan
