Sandra K. “Sandy” Smith, 71, of Indianapolis, passed away on Thursday, March 29, 2018. Sandy was born on October 6, 1946 in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late Morris “Bud” Spilker and Doris Gipson. She graduated High School from Warren Township then went on to become a restaurant manager and later, a daycare owner, who partnered with her mother and sister.
Sandy loved to travel around the United States in the family Motorhome with her loving husband, Donald “Donny” Smith. They enjoyed spending time together in places such as the Grand Canyon, Reno and Las Vegas, Nevada. She enjoyed gambling on these trips and the Horse Races were always her favorite! When she was at home, her two children, Donald Michael Jr. and Kelly always joined them on their gambling trips! Wherever she was she loved to sit down and read a nice fiction novel. It did not matter if it was romance, mystery or even horror… as long as the story was good! Those wonderful stories, and her love of reading, she shared with her daughter, family and friends.
Donny and Sandy have enjoyed many adventures together, but one of the biggest and best adventures of all was recently celebrating fifty years of marriage! A beautiful chapter in the living novel they created together.
Sandy was preceded in death by: her parents, Morris “Bud” Spilker and Doris Gipson; brothers, Morris “Buddy” Spilker, Maurice “Martin” and Robert “Bobby” Gipson, and Michael “Mickey” Watkins. She leaves to cherish her memories: he loving husband, Donny Smith; devoted children, Donald Michael Smith, Jr. and Kelly Ann Smith; brother Tracy Watkins; and sisters, Katherine “Kathy” Gipson-Thomas and Diana “Dee Jo” Gipson.
The family will be celebrating the life of Sandy with an open house on May 19, 2018 beginning at 2:00 pm at their home, where all family and friends are invited to come and remember the woman we all loved. Thus concluding the last chapter of a life well lived.
