Samuel "Sam" Hunter Reams Jr.

Samuel H. Reams, Jr. (Sam), 87, of Whitestown, IN, passed away on October 31, 2025 at Witham Memorial Hospital, Lebanon, IN, after a sudden illness.

He was born in Kingsport, TN, on April 10, 1938, son of the late Samuel Hunter Reams, Sr and Mary Hazel (Ring) Reams. He is survived by his spouse, Barbara Capilos Reams, his children, Debbie Reams, Jackie (Reams) De Vaney (spouse Craig L. De Vaney, Sr) and Samuel Hunter Reams, III and his grandchildren, Zachary T. Speckman (Spouse Brooke), Craig L. De Vaney, Jr, Kent H. De Vaney (Spouse Victoria) and Jesse S. De Vaney . He is also survived by his four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Franklin L. Reams (Frank), his daughter, Mary Elizabeth (Libby) Reams and his granddaughter, Casey Nicole Speckman.

Sam graduated from Emory University, in Atlanta, Georgia in 1960 with a BA in English and a Masters in Christian Education. He had a long career as a Safety Engineering Manager with Aetna Life and Casualty, working in the Spartanburg, SC, Hartford, CT and Indianapolis, IN offices.

In 1960, he married Barbara (the love of his life) of Columbia, SC and they enjoyed 65 wonderful years together, a lifetime of love and laughter raising their four children: Libby, Debbie, Jackie and Hunter.

Sam always had many stories to tell and never met a stranger. He was full of life and enjoyed sharing his past experiences and love of cars with anyone who would listen.
