MR. LEROY WHITTAKER GREEN, JR. (Samuel "Leroy" Mainer) was born on August 15, 1931 to Marion (Gillespie) Green and Rev. Leroy Whittaker Green, Sr. in Chicago, Illinois. SAMUEL received his primary education at Jenner School, and attended Waller Senior High School, later receiving his high school diploma from International Correspondence Schools. Samuel served his country by joining the United States Army and completed active duty in the Korean War, where he received an honorable discharge and was awarded with the honorable Purple Heart, along with the United Nations Service Medal, and the Combat Infantryman Badge in 1952. SAMUEL went on to become a very successful Licensed Realtor in the State of Indiana, and worked for Abernathy Realty. Samuel was employed at Navistar Manufacturing Company as a Quality Control Manager in Chicago, Illinois where he later relocated to Indianapolis, Indiana and retired with over 31 years of service. Samuel also enjoyed helping and serving the citizens of his community, and other service members, by volunteering and completing over 1900 hours at the Richard L. Roudenbush Veterans Hospital. At an early age, Samuel professed his love and was a strong believer in Christ, and was a member of Peoples Baptist Church in Chicago, Illinois, which his grandfather, Rev. Benjamin Green, Sr., founded. After relocating to Indianapolis, he attended Kingdom Community Fellowship in Indianapolis, Indiana. SAMUEL MAINER married Cecelia Johnson on September 22, 1990. Together there was a blended family of 5 children: Mary R. Green and Theresa (Green) Simpson, Kenneth Dodd, Laurie Hollins (Keith), and Leslie Dodd. SAMUEL enjoyed spending time with fellow Legionnaires at the Tillman H. Harpo Post #249, as well as the Lawrence Oakland Post #128. In his leisure time, Samuel enjoyed spending time with family, traveling, playing the bass fiddle, and a love for music, especially jazz and blues. Samuel enjoyed the many trips back to the South visiting with family members and friends, especially his family in Alabama. Samuel was a man of God who demonstrated courage, bravery, compassion, honor and integrity throughout his life. SAMUEL was preceded in death by his parents, Marion (Gillespie) Green and Rev. Leroy Green, Sr.; grandson, Gregoire Green; and brother, Benjamin Green. Samuel leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Cecelia Mainer; daughters, Mary Green of Chicago, Illinois, Theresa Simpson of Columbus, Ohio, Leslie Dodd, and Laurie Hollins (Keith); one son, Kenneth Dodd of Indianapolis, Indiana; sisters, Conden Richmond and Ellena Porter of Indianapolis, Indiana; brothers-in-law, Harold Johnson (Dorothy) of Columbus, Georgia, Harry Johnson and Leon Johnson of Indianapolis, Indiana; aunt, Lorraine Turner of Chicago, Illinois; grandchildren, Ashley Siler, Valencia Byers (Roland), Kendra Nelson, Latashia Hardy, Naomi Marie Green, Niyesha Daniels and grandson, Samuel Jordan, II. He also leaves four nephews, five nieces, 16 great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
