Samuel Edward Hoffer, 82, of Indianapolis, passed away Wednesday, December 15, 2010. Sam was born on March 3, 1928 in South Bend, IN to parents Fred and Gladys Hoffer.
Sam served a tool & die apprenticeship at Studebakers in the 1950’s. He worked at several tool & die shops before being hired at Allison Transmission from where he retired.
Sam was an avid race fan. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle, especially his Harley, which he had most of his life. He loved riding so much that he rode up to the young age of 82. Other hobbies included flying his model airplanes and camping all over the country. Sam was a very loving husband, father, and grandfather who treasured his family. He lived a simple life in a complicated world and he will be dearly missed.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents. He leaves behind to cherish his memory devoted wife of 62 years Mary Hoffer, sons Steve (Cindi), Kevin (Roberta), Terence, and Neil (Crystal) Hoffer, brothers Tom, Andy, and Ron, sisters Jerri Beth and Sandra Lou, 8 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation for Mr. Hoffer will be Monday, December 20, 2010 from 4-8 pm at Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Centers-Washington Park North 2706 Kessler Blvd. W. Drive. Services will be held Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at 12pm at the funeral center with one hour of additional calling beginning at 11am.
