Samuel Mac Boomershine

November 4, 2002 — May 24, 2026

Indianapolis, IN

Samuel “Sam” Mac Boomershine — a friend to many, a brother, a son, and a beloved boyfriend to Hayley Curran — passed away in Indianapolis on May 24, 2026. Born on November 4, 2002, Sam’s life was a vibrant tapestry woven with unconditional love, unwavering kindness, laughter, and a profound love for both family and community. You could always recognize when Sam was around, whether by his laugh, his cowboy hat, or his central Indiana southern twang he somehow developed. He truly lit up any room he walked into with his infectious personality. A graduate of North Central High School, Sam possessed an outgoing spirit and a warm personality that welcomed all who crossed his path. He was known for his kindness, his warmth, and his willingness to lend a helping hand when others needed it most. Sam’s presence was a source of comfort — like a hug after a long day, a laugh when you needed it most, or even just a simple phone call to check in. Sam had a lifelong passion for mechanics.

His first job at Ed Martin Buick GMC fueled his love for all things mechanical and led him to his most recent role at Herc Rentals. He loved his job so much he often brought work home with him, working on his beloved Toyota Tacoma truck or anything else he could fit in his garage. He was a personable problem solver, making friends with customers and seeing his dirty hands as the mark of a job well done. Anything with an engine filled his weekdays and weekends — from work to car meets to races to helping friends. If an engine was involved, Sam would be there. This was especially true in the month of May, when he treated the Indianapolis 500 like a sacred holiday at the cathedral of racing.Sam was a helper, always. He had the one tool you were missing and the perspective you didn’t know you needed, paired with some sarcastic humor no doubt. He would show up with all the tools in the world even if you just needed a hug.

No one was a stranger to Sam; he would give you the shirt off his back simply because he thought it would look better on you than him. No matter how many times you would say “I got it,” Sam would say “let me help you” ten times more. He is survived by his devoted father, John “Boomer” Boomershine; his loving mother, Shelly Boomershine; his sisters, Emily Grace Boomershine (and her partner, Emily Bruns) and Erin Mackenzie Boomershine (and her partner, Forrest); his grandparents, Ted and Hazel Dowden; and his faithful companion, Elvis, his golden retriever. Sam was preceded in death by Norman and Marilyn Boomershine. Sam is held close in our hearts and in the hearts of many others who had the pleasure of knowing him. Our kitchen table will never be the same.

We will always be waiting for a phone call after work. We will miss his hugs, his laughter, his light, and his love. May Sam’s memory live on — in his friends, in his family, in his work, and in all of our hearts. In honor of Sam’s unique style and spirited personality, family and friends are invited to wear their favorite blue jeans, cowboy boots, and cowboy hats as they join together to celebrate his remarkable life.

The visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, from 4:00 to 5:00 pm at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, located at 100 West 86th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46260. Following the visitation, a Celebration of Life service will commence at 5:00 pm, allowing all who knew Sam to gather in remembrance and gratitude for the joy he brought into their lives. Sam’s truck will be parked at the front of the church — a place for anyone who wishes to leave a flower, a memory, or a memento in the truck bed.The thing Sam loved most was spreading joy wherever he could. We ask that you continue to spread Sam’s joy. Go get a cowboy hat, maybe a pair of boots, or even some jean shorts, and help those in need with a smile on your face.May Sam’s memory live on — in his friends, in his family, in his work, and in all of our hearts.
