Obituary

Sally Lu Baker entered eternal peace at 7:49 a.m. on Tuesday, December 2nd, ending her battle with lung cancer and reuniting her in heaven with her beloved husband, Dick Baker.

Born on September 9th, 1943, Sally was the daughter of the late Hartz Perry and Marjorie (Burghard) Perry. She was also the loving sister of John D. Perry of Indianapolis.

In the days before her passing, all her children and grandchildren were able to give her one last hug and kiss goodbye — a blessing her family will cherish forever. Sally was the devoted mother of Kelly Merket and the stepmother of Kevin Baker, Dawn Lyon, and Tammy (Karl) Behrens. She was the proud "Baba" of five grandchildren: Kolin Behrens, Kailey (Sam) Wilkinson, Connor Lyon, Tanner Lyon, and Adalynn Lyon.

Sally graduated from Broad Ripple High School Class of 1961 and attended Ball State University. She remained in the Broad Ripple area until her marriage to Dick Baker in 1993. Sally was truly the love of Dick’s life. Together they shared a joyful bond filled with their mutual love of Elvis, Neil Diamond, Colts games, bowling, card games with friends, and a shared sense of humor — including plenty of off-color jokes. Above all, they treasured their children and grandchildren.

A dedicated member of the Eastern Star (Millersville Chapter) since November 1970, Sally was honored to have received her 50-year pin in 2020. She was a loyal and selfless friend, always willing to listen and offer support. Because of her warmth and kindness, she formed many lasting friendships, some spanning more than 70 years. She was also exceptionally generous, supporting multiple organizations, and she shared her wonderful sense of humor with everyone she met.

Visitation will be held on Monday, December 8th, from 12:00–2:00 p.m. at Flanner Buchanan – Hamilton Memorial Park (Prairie Waters), 4180 Westfield Rd., Westfield, IN 46062, with a funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m.
