Ruth Prickett Houghton

Ruth Prickett Houghton (Cricket) passed away on May 15, 2011. Ruth was a resident of The Forum at the Crossing in Indianapolis, Indiana at the time of her death. Ruth was born on November 30, 1919, in Bloomington, Indiana. She is the daughter of Alva LeRoy Prickett (Professor of Accounting and war time Dean of the Indiana University School of Business) and Sarah (Bonnie) Stevenson Prickett. Ruth graduated from Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana in 1941 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She was a member of Pi Beta Phi and Kappa Kappa Kappa sororities. Ruth married John W. Houghton in Bloomington, Indiana on August 21, 1943. They moved to Indianapolis, Indiana where John practiced as an attorney. She was an awesome homemaker for John, who was the love of her life. They resided in Carmel, Indiana at the time of John’s death in 2009. In life Ruth pursued her passion for new and varied activities. These included art and design, boating, writing, weaving, and swimming. After raising three boys, she established COLORTRENDS (consulting on color selection) and The Word Place (developing names for businesses, products, and services). Thanks go to her friends and acquaintances over the years. Special thanks go to Carol Cahill, Lois Rohleder, Joan Broderick, Bobbie Horan, Eleanor Best, and Barbara Citron for their friendship and help. A big hug for Geraldine and Chester Parson – very special friends. Special thanks also go to her aids and nurses who helped this year at the Forum. Stephanie, Asia, Sylvia, Pat and Jodi, your comfort and aid will never be forgotten. Ruth’s brother, Ralph S. Prickett, predeceased Ruth. Ruth is survived by three sons (John W. Houghton, Jr., James P. Houghton, and Jay D. Houghton) and six grandchildren (Karen, Heather, Casey, Blake, Jacqueline, and Danielle). A celebration of life for Ruth will at 11:00 am, Saturday, May 21 at Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Center, 325 E. Carmel Drive, Carmel, Indiana, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Center – Carmel is entrusted with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Indiana University Foundation, 950 N.
