Ruth Geraldine “Geri” (Fioretti) McKay, age 98, of Zionsville, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at her recent residence in Westfield, Indiana. She was born March 23, 1927, in Detroit, Michigan to Tancredi and Assunta (Benedetti) Fioretti.
Following her 1944 graduation from Nativity High School, Geri worked as a secretary for the Detroit Edison Company. On June 25, 1949, she married her husband of 62 years, Harry James McKay, also of Detroit, Michigan. In 1951, Harry and Geri settled in Berkley, Michigan, where together they raised their five children.
Geri enjoyed music, dancing, tennis, sewing, gardening, and cooking. Most of all, she loved life and being with family and friends, often bringing everyone together for family visits and celebrations. She told her children wonderful stories of growing up with her six older brothers and sisters and their loving parents.
She loved God and she loved others, and she brought warmth and joy wherever she went. She was an active and enthusiastic member of St. Alphonsus Liguori Catholic Church in Zionsville.
Geri is the much beloved mother of five children: Kenneth (Karen) McKay of Woodhaven, MI; Kathleen (Gary) Myers of Carmel, IN; Carol (Mark) Sands of Grant, MI; Chris (Nancy) McKay of Indianapolis, IN; and Mary Louthan of Noblesville, IN. She is also a devoted grandmother of 12 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren.
