Ruth Lively Barker

Ruth Lively Barker, 92, of Indianapolis passed away on Friday, March 7, 2014. She was born in Bloomington, Indiana on November 15, 1921 and lived most of her life in Indianapolis. On June 7, 1942, Ruth married the late Ivan Lively, a marriage of 57 years. On May 5, 2003, Ruth married Lory Barker, who passed away in 2009. Ruth started her career at the Graham Hotel in Bloomington, Indiana. She became the office manager of Indiana Motor Trucking and worked there until 1948. After starting a family, Ruth began working for the dean of the Indiana University Dental School in 1960. She progressed to the position of executive assistant to the president of Indiana University, Indianapolis office, until her retirement in 1984. Ruth is preceded in death by her son, Phillip Ivan Lively (Elisa). She is survived by her sister Dorothy Louise Vandenbark; her daughter Donna Lively Clark (Randolph Russell); her grandchildren Amanda Ford (Michael), Hillary Dick (Bradley), Adelle Clark, and Courtney Lively; and her great grandchildren Hunter Ford, and Austin Ford; her step children Philip Barker (Becky), Pam Houlton (Max), Jeff Barker (Kathy), Tony Barker (Cindy), and Candace Young (Fred). In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra or Chapel Glen Church of Christ, where Ruth was a longtime member. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5 to 9 PM at Flanner and Buchanan-Washington Park North, 2706 Kessler Blvd. West Drive, Indianapolis.
