Ruth Jeanette (Beaver) Goodwin was born January 15, 1925 and went home to be with the Lord October 19, 2017. Ruth was the third of her mother’s nine children–and the first girl. Two of Ruth’s sisters, Mary Martin and Dorothy Pedigo survive.
An adept student, Ruth skipped a couple of grades and graduated from Franklin High School ahead of her age group. She attended Franklin College for a time before coming to work in Indianapolis at Methodist Hospital. She met Duncan Goodwin in 1945 and they married in 1946. They remained married for 65 years. They were wonderful parents to their three children, Marcia (Joe) Lawson, Mike (Sarah) Goodwin and Marilyn (Pat) Goodwin. Ruth unfailingly loved her children, her eight grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.
Ruth touched many lives during her 92 years through her caring actions and many cards and letters sent to family, friends, and acquaintances. She provided years of great photos and an incredible wit to those who knew her. She was always ready to play games with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, teaching with patience, and transitioning to a formidable competitor once her “pupils” learned how to play. Her humor, playfulness, and kindness will be missed by all who knew her.
Visitation will be on Friday, October 27, 2017 at Flanner Buchanan-Floral Park, 425 N. Holt Rd., from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., with the service immediately following. Burial will follow at Floral Park Cemetery.
