Ruth Ellen "R.E." Minott, 84, died peacefully in her home in Carmel, Indiana on October 31, 2014 of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Born June 5, 1930 in the farming community of Oakville, Indiana to Harry Marguerite Fleming, Ruth Ellen and her family eventually settled in Richmond, Indiana. Ruth Ellen had an older sister, Joanna Grace, and a younger brother, Thomas Evan.
A proud Red Devil a t Richmond High School, Ruth Ellen played field hockey, was on the Home Coming Court, and found her natural talent and love of acting. She then followed her passion for acting to University of Denver where she played the lead role in several productions. Taking in the sights and scenery, she truly loved her time in Denver.
During her year at Denver, Ruth Ellen met the love of her life, Paul Owen Minott. Seeing him from across the room she "asked him for a light", and thus began a great love story. After proposing, Paul followed Ruth Ellen to Indianapolis where they married. She is survived by their five children Paul Owen (Debra) Minott, Philip "Flip" Evan (Pam) Minott, Allen Sanders (Chris) Minott, Lisa (Michael) Fitzwater , and Laura (Dan) Shattuck, 13 grandchildren Emily Caitlin Minott, Anthony Austin Minott, Allison (Stephen) Noa , Zachary Allen Minott, Elizabeth Nichole (John) Duncan, Sierra Grace (Scott) Jones , Nicole Christine Minott, Amber Joanna (Travis Beaty) Macdonald, Jocelyn Teal Macdonald, Colton Paul Fitzwater, Lillian Grace (Chris) Wellsand, Madison Faith Shattuck, Gabriella Ruth Shattuck, and six great-grandchildren, Ronen Evan Noa , Arianna Rebecca Noa, Aubriella Suzan Noa, Bentley Noah Wellsand, Alice June Macdonald Beaty, Coraline Ruth Macdonald Beaty.
Ruth Ellen and her children attended First Friends Quaker Church. She worked with a program called Weekday Religious Education, taking the Gospel to schools providing bible lessons and a meal to children that would not receive it any other way.
Ruth Ellen enjoyed playing bridge, hiking, searching for fossils, bird watching, and reading. She instilled in her children a love for nature and the National Parks through memorable family camping trips. She spent years cheering loudly from the stands while watching her sons play hockey and her daughter, Lisa, compete as a swimmer.
Following a divorce, Ruth Ellen put herself through Ivy Tech in an emerging field of computer programming, graduating with their first Associates Degree graduating class. She worked for J. Everett Light Career Center at North Central High School and Penn Dixie Steel in Kokomo, Indiana. Her final career move was to the Indiana Department of Revenue as a computer programmer where she found great fulfillment managing her team until she retired at 76.
A celebration of Ruth Ellen's life will be held at Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Home , 325 East Carmel Drive, Carmel, Indiana 46032 a t 1:00 pm on Monday, November 3, 2014, preceded by a Viewing from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm.
