Russell “Russ” Myron Dorsey passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 22nd, after spending his final days as he lived much of his life, surrounded by his family.
Prior to his retirement in 2008, Russ enjoyed a long career at Eli Lilly, spanning 35 years. Though he spoke of it rarely, he received the Bronze Star with Valor for his courageous service as a medic during the Vietnam War. He also achieved his dream of attaining a pilot's license, and maintained his interest in aviation throughout his life.
A natural helper and steadfast provider, Russ found joy in the simple things; listening to music, playing the guitar, tending to his yard, flying drones, and sharing time with both two-legged and four-legged family members. To those closest to him, he was both a rock and a compass, offering a solid foundation, guidance, and an unwavering example of integrity and devotion. He was a man of quiet strength and unwavering authenticity, who didn’t need many words to make an impact. His calm confidence and genuine spirit spoke for him.
Russ will be remembered for his unconditional love, kindness, compassion, generosity, grace, wisdom, wit, humor, and humility.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elizabeth and Myron, his brothers, Donald and Larry, and his life-long friend and brother-in-law, Harold "Husky" Rothkopf. He is survived by his beloved wife, Deborah; his children, Sarah and Matthew (Heather); grandchildren, Masynn, Sajan, and Madilyn; as well as his nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, and extended family.
A celebration of life will be from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 10, at Rick’s Boatyard, in the private room upstairs. Family and friends are invited to gather for food, fellowship, and remembrance.
