Ruby S Smith, age 92, of Indianapolis, formerly of Naperville, IL went home to be with our Father on September 11, 2022, and was reunited with her loving husband, Dick Smith, who passed away in 2014. Ruby was born on April 11, 1930, to the late Russell and Ruby Stevens.
Ruby had a special talent of getting people together, organizing social groups inclusive to all. She was president of her garden club in Naperville and ringleader of her weekly Wednesday Happy Hour neighborhood get togethers’. She also founded a Red Hat Society in Naperville and was its “Queen Bee”.
When it was time to pay for her children’s college educations, Ruby reentered the work force with Shur-Sell Demonstrating Service in 1967. She finished her career selling Stewarts coffee from 1976-1987 throughout the greater Chicago area, regularly winning top salesperson for her efforts.
Ruby and Dick moved to Hoosier Village in 2010 and Ruby promptly organized a knitting/craft group and a monthly group dinner at MCL cafeteria. She also served on the chapel committee.
Ruby was multi-talented. She was an amazing seamstress, knitter, gourmet cook and baker. Ruby hosted wonderful dinner and parties for family and friends. She made flawless ribbon bows and always set impeccable holiday tables. She was our wise sage, with excellent advice over all ranges of subjects. Ruby loved traveling. She enjoyed trips to England, France, Italy, Mexico, Hawaii, Alaska, Florida, whitewater rafting thought the Grand Canyon and several cruises with Dick, family and friends.
Ruby was beautiful inside and out. Her outfits and shoes always matched, along with her jewelry, coifed hair and perfectly manicured fingernails. She was loved by all who knew her.
Ruby is survived by her loving son, Richard Keil (Luan) Smith and daughter R. Elaine (Stephen) Kessel.
