Ruby Mae Graves Nicholas
died peacefully at home on January 12, 2012. She was born at home on March 6, 1921 in Murphy Hollow, Kentucky to William and Venia (Riley) Graves. She moved to Indianapolis in 1945 and worked at Taystee Bakery. She is survived by Gene, her loving husband of 63 years, her daughters Dorothy Johnston (Tom) and Becky Roberts (Susan), her grandchildren Steve Spears (Lori ), Lisa Bowling (Greg), Laura Reuter (Jim), Tommy Johnston (Stacey), Bobby Clark (Megan), Carrie Morrison (Mike), fifteen great grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Ruby was preceded in death by her son Tim Spears (Pauline), her daughter Barbara Clark Shireman, and her grandson Jeff Spears.
Ruby was a great country cook and vegetable gardener and enjoyed watching the cooking channel. She loved her family dearly. She attended General Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held at Flanner and Buchanan – Floral Park, Indianapolis at 2 pm, Monday January 16. Friends may visit from 12-2.
Donations may be made, in lieu of flowers, to VistaCare Hospice (6431 S. East Street, Indianapolis, IN 46227) who cared for Ruby with great compassion and kindness in her final weeks.
