Ruby F Hadley

February 17, 1927 — August 6, 2014

Ruby F. Hadley 87 of Indianapolis, IN passed away peacefully on August 6, 2014. She was born to the late Clarence Whitaker and Mary E. (Griffith) Whitaker Gambel on February 17, 1927 in Morgan County, Indiana. She was the widow of Joe "Cliff" Hadley whom she was married to for 54 years when he passed away in 2007. Ruby attended Broad Ripple High School but then moved and graduated from Decatur Central High School. She worked as a beautician for Linda's Beauty Salon for a few years before taking a job at Western Electric. She later became the owner and operator of Crooked Lake Fishing Club. Although she worked here from 6am - 9pm seven days a week, she always enjoyed telling stories about her days at the lake. Ruby had some really big "Fish Tales" to tell. She had been a member of the Order of the West Newton Eastern Star #489. Ruby loved bowling and participated in several bowling leagues, liked to "trash talk" while playing Euchre, and enjoyed playing Skipbo. Ruby also spent her time antiquing and attending the numerous sporting events that her son and grandchildren participated in. She never missed a game! She loved her Indiana Pacers, and much to her family's dismay, her Indiana Hoosiers. In her later years, she loved watching Jeopardy, Wheel Of Fortune, and old westerns. You couldn't walk into the house without her having a Western on! She is survived by her son, Mark (Deborah) Hadley, grandchildren; Dustan, Sommer, Courtney, Matthew, Haley, and Karli, great grandchildren; Mason and Jenner, special nieces; Karen, Beth, Linda, Mary Ellen, Amy and a host of extended family. She is preceded in death by her father, Clarence Whitaker, mother, Mary E. (Griffith) Whitaker Gambel, step-father, William Gambel, and a brother, Richard Gamble. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Ruby's caregiver, Cindy Reeder whom took such good care of her. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 11, 2014 at 11 AM at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church where she was a faithful member for many years serving as a Deaconess and Sunday School Secretary. Visitation will be held at Flanner and Buchanan-Decatur Township Sunday, August 10th 3-7 PM and Monday August 11th one hour prior to the service at the church. She will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood, IN. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. You are invited to go to the Guest Book page to pass along your personal message or tell a story. Sincerely, -Your friends at Flanner and Buchanan
