In Loving Memory of Ruby "Earlene" Atkins

Ruby "Earlene" Atkins, 85, of Indianapolis, passed away on February 29th, 2024. She was born on October 24th, 1938, to parents Earl and Ruby (White) King. Raised on the southside of Indiana, she shared her childhood with three brothers and two sisters.

In her early twenties, Earlene embarked on the journey of starting her own family. She was blessed with five girls and two boys. During this period, she also managed her own diner in Indiana, a venture she shared with her lifelong best friend, Gertrude. Later, she transitioned to a career in the Lawrence Central cafeteria, where she became a beloved grandmother figure to everyone passing through the lunch line. Earlene dedicated herself to this role until the graduation of her last grandchild.

Affectionately known as G.G., Earlene found joy in spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Whether babysitting at home or attending their sporting events, she was always there for them. Earlene was an avid fan of the Indiana Pacers and the Indianapolis Colts. She also cherished all things related to BTS and when not engrossed in Korean soap operas, she could be found tending to her garden. GG's home was a haven for all, where everyone was welcome and loved.

Earlene leaves behind a legacy as a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

She is survived by her children Michael Atkins, Mark (Ginger) Atkins, Marci (Joseph) Quiroga, Meichelle Moore, Melissa Atkins, and Robbin Pantle; her grandchildren Mikey, Marci, Alexis, Matthew J., Zachary, Marcus, Paige, Matthew, Mercier, Joshua, Brittany, Brigitte, Meghan, Lance, Cody, and Chase; 23 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and her sister Barbara Kreutzberger.

Earlene is preceded in death by her daughter Melany Atkins.

Earlene's spirit was one of perpetual warmth and love, and for those who knew her, farewells were never "goodbye," only "ToodleLoo."

Family and friends are invited to gather for Earlene's celebration of life on Friday, March 8th, from 4-6 pm at Flanner Buchanan Washington Park East.
