Roy E. Mcdougal

Roy McDougal, age 89, of Indianapolis, received his Christmas wish to rejoin his wife on December 25, 2021, less than three weeks after her passing.

Roy was born on January 1, 1932, to the late William James McDougal and Lela May Gregory. He would have been celebrating his 90th birthday on New Year’s Day. Roy was the youngest of three, his siblings being Jay (having preceded him in death) and Mary. He graduated from Washington High School in 1951. And after deciding not to play college basketball in the Texas heat, he served in the U.S. Air Force in the Korean War. On June 28, 1953 he married his high school sweetheart Hilda while on leave. After completing his time in the service he found a job at General Motors where he worked his way up in the engineering department. Then during his retirement he spent many years working part time at Eagle Creek Golf Course.

Roy enjoyed basketball, golfing, hunting, fishing, watching sports, and spending time with his family, most importantly his wife, Hilda.

Visitation will be held January 5, 2022, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Flanner Buchanan – Floral Park. Funeral Services will start immediately after (1:00 pm) at Flanner Buchanan – Floral Park. Entombment will be at Floral Park Cemetery.

He is survived by his son, Ron McDougal, and his wife Sally; his daughter, Debra Oldham; 5 grandchildren; Tiffany, Ryan, Laura, Kate, and Eric; 5 Great-grandchildren, Krista, Tyler, Alexis, Mattie, and Mason; and 3 Great-great Grandchildren, Nadia, Jaxon, and Jaden.

Roy was loved by many, and will be missed by all. Although, our hearts are heavy, we are also happy as it was Roy’s wish to “catch up to” his wife of 68 years after her passing earlier this month. As we continue with our lives it is important for us to remain tethered to our Lord God, may we find refuge and comfort in his word.
