Rosemary Mohr, age 91, passed away at Greenwood Healthcare Center, on September 13, 2021. A lifelong resident of Indianapolis, Rosemary graduated from Arsenal Technical High School in 1948 and then attended Indiana University’s Indianapolis extension for two years. Rosemary then began a 34-year career as a Class Q Allotment Clerk at the Fort Benjamin Harrison Finance Center and later served as a Voucher Examiner in Travel Pay Claims of Retired Pay Operations. She was honored for accumulation of sick leave and twice received awards for suggestions made. After retirement in 1987, Rosemary had several part-time and volunteer jobs including Merchants National Bank, Fannie May, Visit Indy where she worked registration at conventions including Do it Best Corp., St. Vincent Hospital, and St. Augustine/Little Sisters of the Poor. She also was an active member of Beta Sigma Phi, an international business sorority.
Rosemary was a red-head and an only child who never had a middle name or middle initial. She loved to travel all over the world and would go alone or with her cousins. On those travels, she would pick up a shot glass or two as a souvenir since they were inexpensive and easy to pack in her suitcase. She liked to tell everyone about one trip she made alone to New York City where she met Katharine Hepburn. Rosemary loved to shop for clothes and jewelry and was an avid Indy 500 fan. In her later years, Rosemary very much enjoyed her Diet Cokes and little pecan pies. She was known for consulting the libraries, relatives, and Greenwood Healthcare Center staff and residents for answers to her daily trivia questions. Rosemary always will be remembered as the “life of the party.”
Rosemary was preceded in death by her parents, Russell & Nellie Johnson Mohr, and her beloved cat Miss Piggy. She is survived by many cousins who loved her dearly. Rosemary was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church.
There will be a graveside service on Wednesday, September 15, at 2 p.m. at Holy Cross Cemetery, 2446 South Meridian Street, Section 6-G. (Enter from the gate on Pleasant Run Parkway North Drive. There is a “road closed” sign, but the road is open so you can enter the cemetery gate there. If you enter from South Meridian, take a hard left and go all the way to the back of the cemetery.)
The family would like to thank Greenwood Healthcare Center for the great care they provided and for the many friendships she had there with the residents and staff.
Flanner Buchanan Decatur Township is honored and entrusted with serving the Mohr family.
