Rosalind Gail (Abel) Mitchel, 79, of Carmel, Indiana, passed away June 13, 2016 with her family by her side.
She was born February 10, 1937, in Bedford, Indiana, the daughter of Frank Abel and Lelah Belle (Wray) Abel.
Rosalind was a graduate of Helmsburg High School in 1955. She married Stephen Eugene Mitchel, February 11, 1956 and celebrated 56 anniversaries before Stephen’s passing in 2012.
She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Parish, Indianapolis. She had the honor of being invested as a Dame of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem by Pope Benedict XVI in 2006. She enjoyed volunteering with Birthline and received the Catholic Life Network Pro Vita Award. As an avid quilter, she used her talents to help with fundraising for the Medical Missions group at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel.
She loved researching family genealogy and was a supporter of local and state historical societies. Rosie was also involved in the Hamilton County 4H, especially the Carmel Village Lassies and Laddies Club.
She is survived by her eight children, Lucinda Mitchel-Ledbetter (Steve), Kathleen Gatewood (Joel), Lori Edmundson, Jill Shively (Scot), Jennifer Kane (Jim), Andrew Mitchel (Rachel), Michael Mitchel (Lisa) and Samuel Mitchel (Anne), along with 19 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and her brothers, Richard Abel, James Abel and Christopher Abel.
Rosalind was preceded in death by her parents, brother Anthony Abel and grandson Mitchel Llewellyn.
Friends may call on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 from 4:00-8:00 pm at Flanner and Buchanan-Carmel. The Requiem Mass will be Thursday, June 16, 2016 at 10:30 am at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Indianapolis. Burial will follow at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, Indianapolis.
