Ronald P. Porter

Carmel, Indiana

Ronald P. Porter of Carmel, passed away at his home Sunday evening surrounded by his family.   Ron was born September 3, 1940 in White County Illinois to the late Phillip and Versa Porter.  He spent most of his youth in Grayson County, Kentucky.

 

Ron received both his bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from the University of Kentucky.  He was commissioned into the US Air Force in 1963.   During his service, he was stationed at Norton Air Force Base in San Bernardino, California to work on the Minuteman Missile Program.  In 1972, he received an Honorable Discharge and moved to Indianapolis, IN to work for Allison Engines.

 

As a mechanical engineer, he established himself as a published expert in micro turbines. During his career, Ron travelled for Dresser-Clark working on compressor problems in various countries around the world.  He eventually returned to Indianapolis to work for Rolls Royce for the next 24 years.

 

Ron was a member of Toastmasters International, having achieved the honor of becoming a Distinguished Toastmaster.  He was served as an elder of the Presbyterian Church and regularly attended the Rolls Royce Retirement Club.

 

Private family services will be held at a later date.

 

Ron is survived by his wife of 61 years, Frances; children, Sandra L. Porter, Cynthia G. Porter and Ronald H. Porter; grandchildren, Grant, Liam and Lily Porter; sister, Nita J. Porter.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
