Ronald Joseph Gasvoda, Sr., of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away on July 1, 2026, at the age of 89. He was born in Indianapolis on June 11, 1937, to the late Anthony Gasvoda and Barbara Wilson.
At an early age, Ron learned to operate cranes and went on to work tirelessly for 60 years as an Operating Engineer for Local #103. After long days on the job, he often headed to the family farm in Camby, where he helped his father grow crops and raise livestock. He was a longtime, faithful member of St. Ann Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Council 3682. He is fondly remembered by many in his church family as the “Egg Man,” as he made weekly visits to friends’ homes delivering eggs from the family farm.
Ron married the love of his life, Carol Ann Cunningham, on December 16, 1957, at St. Ann Catholic Church. In 2007, they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at the same church. Ron and Carol enjoyed more than 10 years of retirement in Florida, spending their days counting seashells and riding around in their golf cart, before Carol’s passing in 2010. Ron remained in Florida for another 14 years before returning home to Indiana.
Ronald embraced life with enthusiasm and found joy in many hobbies and adventures over the years. He loved his RV trips, camping with family and friends, visiting all of Indiana’s state parks as well as many other destinations. He was also a collector of many things, including model trains, hats, and odds and ends purchased from television infomercials. He enjoyed watching Western movies, and anyone visiting him would often find him settled comfortably in his recliner enjoying one.
He loved all pets, both cats and dogs, and enjoyed dog-sitting for his children. However, if you accepted his offer to dog-sit, you might find your pet being fed whatever Ron was having for dinner.
Ron’s greatest joy came from spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren in recent years. He was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew him.
Ronald is survived by his loving children: Mareia Gasvoda; Jacqueline (Kevin) Gasvoda-Durey; Ronald J. Gasvoda, Jr.; Deanna (Michael) Ratz; Christina (Christopher) Warren; and Andrew (Ashley) Gasvoda; as well as his eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony Gasvoda and Barbara Wilson; his brother, Anthony Gasvoda; his sister, Linda Beltari; and his beloved wife, Carol.
To celebrate Ronald’s life and legacy, the family invites friends to visitation on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, from 4:00–8:00 p.m. at Flanner Buchanan – Decatur Township, and again on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, from 10:00–10:45 a.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church, 6350 S. Mooresville Road, Indianapolis, Indiana. A Rosary service will be held at 10:45 a.m., followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m.
Following the service, all family and friends are invited to a luncheon in the church hall hosted by the St. Ann Catholic Church family.
Ronald J. Gasvoda Sr. will be laid to rest at Washington Park North Cemetery in Indianapolis, Indiana.
The family requests that memorial contributions in Ronald’s memory be made to St. Ann Catholic Church.
