Ronald G. Daugherty

Ronald G. Daugherty, 87, of Carmel, Indiana, went to his heavenly home with the Lord on February 25, 2016. He was born on July 13, 1928 in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Ron graduated from Concordia High School in Fort Wayne in 1946. He attended Purdue University School of Agriculture, graduating in 1950. He worked for Kroger for 33 years, retiring in 1983.

On November 7, 1950, he was drafted in the army, serving as a sergeant and artillery instructor at Fort Bliss, Texas for two years active duty. He was honorably discharged from reserve status on December 5, 1956.

In 1953, he was in Kroger’s management program. Named Vice president in 1968, he headed the Kansas/Missouri division and from 1972 to 1974, he was Vice President of the Fort Wayne Division. In 1974, he was Vice President, special assignment corporate Warehousing and Distribution, Cincinnati, Ohio. From 1977-1983, he was Vice President, operations, central marketing areas in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Surviving are his wife, Ruth, celebrating 64 years of marriage; one son, Roger Daugherty (Paula) of Toledo, Ohio; two daughters, Renee Blair (Charles) of Fishers, Indiana and Rhea Spratt (Wesley) of Elgin, South Carolina; grandchildren, Jill Daugherty, Brad Daugherty (Lisa), CJ, Casie and Carson Blair; step grandson, Michael Crouse and two step great grandchildren, Kylie and Auggie Crouse.

He was preceded in death by his son, Rick; parents, Glenn C. and Susie Daugherty; and one sister, Dawn Schinbeckler.

Services will be held Saturday, March 5, 2016 with calling from 10:30 a.m until 12:00 p.m. Services will begin at noon at Carmel Lutheran Church, 4850 E. Main Street. Memorial contributions may be made to Carmel Lutheran Church or the Purduettes of Purdue University. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. Arrangements were entrusted to Flanner and Buchanan – Carmel.
