Ronald Edward Capps

December 27, 1942 — January 6, 2012

Ronald Edward Capps, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on January 6, 2012. He was 69 years old. He is survived by his devoted wife of 48 years, Susy; their four children, Chris, Craig and his wife Kellie, Chad and his wife Cecile, and Cammi Capps; his ten grandchildren, Trevor, Sonni, Breanna, Savanna, Cassidy, Daulton, Ariel, Drake, Cade, and Luke Capps; and his sister, Patricia Fox. Although Ronnie worked as a die maker at GM Truck and Bus for thirty years, his real passion was serving God and his church. He was a deacon and an elder at the Church of Christ for over forty years, serving first at Plainfield, and then at Lafayette Heights. God always came first in Ronnie's life, as did his desire to lead others to him. The other love of Ronnie's life was his wife, Susy. The two of them truly lived a love story. They enjoyed the blessings of many children and grandchildren, and managed to fall more in love with each other every day, despite the hardships that they often faced. Although Ronnie lost both of his legs and an eye to diabetes, he never let these things get in his way. He had an incredible will to live, made evident by all the medical problems he had to endure. He loved to make his grandchildren laugh, whether by changing the words to the Christmas song "Let It Snow," and ending the tune with a dramatic "Let it Snee, Let it Snee, Let it Snee", or by telling them about how he drove twenty minutes to the nearest Meijer on his motorized scooter, singing old love songs the entire way. Ronnie touched the lives of many people during his time on earth. In the days following his death, the outpouring of kind words and cherished memories was remarkable, leading us all to believe that while the world may have lost a great man, heaven gained a beautiful soul.
