Rome Andrews Jr. (affectionately known as “Bay Bruh”), was born on November 5, 1946 in East Chicago, IN to the late Rome ‘Zeke’ Andrews Sr. and Mary Jane Andrews (Mitchell). He accepted Christ at a young age and was baptized at First Baptist Church, East Chicago, IN.
He was a 1965 graduate of Roosevelt High School, East Chicago, IN. After high school he worked at Lever Brothers in Hammond, IN, then was drafted and served in the U.S Army where he was honorably discharged in 1968. During his time in the military, he served in Germany during the Vietnam War. After his military service, he returned to work at Lever Brothers where he retired in 2003 after 35 dedicated years.
After retirement he moved to Indianapolis, IN in 2006 to be closer to his children and grandchildren. He was a member of Eastern Star Church where he served in the Men of Purpose and Sr. Saints Ministries. Rome loved his family and stressed the importance of education and a strong work ethic. He was an avid Chicago sports fan, loved music, sharing stories and jokes, imparting wisdom, grilling barbecue and he never missed a birthday. We will always remember his quick wit and loving smile.
Rome made his heavenly transition on Thursday, March 3, 2022. He was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Andrews; and parents, Rome and Mary Jane Andrews (Mitchell), Sr.
He leaves to cherish his memory, wife of 27yrs Charlene Andrews; daughters, Tonya (Lee) Dugan of Temecula, CA; Pamela (Gregory) White of Indianapolis, IN; Safiya (Allan) Bell of Suwanee, GA; step-daughter Evora (Edward) Jones of Indianapolis, IN; and brother Clarence (Mae) Andrews of Gary, IN. He has 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren all of whom he held close to his heart. A host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends were all loved dearly.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 10-12pm at Flanner Buchanan-Oaklawn Memorial Gardens (Conner Suite), 9700 Allisonville Rd. Indianapolis. Funeral services will begin there at 12pm. Online condolences may be shared at www.flannerbuchanan.com.
