Roland E. Spinks Sr known to family and friends as Todd, died early Saturday morning, April 6, 2024. He was born in Hookersville, WV on October 11, 1932. He was the 9th of 10 children and the last survivor of them all.
He grew up in the mountains of West Virginia which he dearly loved. He moved to Indianapolis in 1950 at the age of 17 to go to work for JD Adams which later became Westinghouse Air Brake Company where he worked for 31 years, including the 2 years he served in the U.S. Army. He was active in the United Steelworkers of America union where he was Local 1262 Union president until the plant closed in 1983.
He was an active member of Lakeview Church for many years where he served on the board. Recently he had been attending Life Tabernacle where his funeral will be held.
He married Rosevan Cook in 1955 and they raised 5 children together. Roland II, deceased, Lynn of Fort Wayne, Michael of Camby, Robert of Indianapolis, and Lisa Yarling of Florida.
He was the proud grandfather of 20 and great grandfather of 29 with number 30 on the way in July, that brings the total to 50!
The visitation will be at Flanner and Buchanan Decatur Township 5463 Kentucky Ave. Indianapolis, IN on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, from 4:00 pm-8:00 pm. The funeral will be held at 2:00pm on April 11, 2024, at Life Tabernacle at 3540 Oliver Ave, Indianapolis, IN. He will be laid to rest at West Ridge Park Cemetery in Indianapolis, IN.
