Roland Julius Preuss, 99, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, formerly of Indianapolis, was called to heaven by our Lord, Jesus Christ, on May 28, 2026. Roland was born on March 5, 1927, to Erna and Julius Preuss, in Waterville, Minnesota. He received the Sacrament of Holy Baptism on April 3, 1927, and was confirmed in the Lutheran faith on June 1, 1941, both at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, in Waterville.
After serving as a Corporal in the U.S. Army Infantry from 1945-1946, Roland attended Gustavus Adolphus College and graduated in 1951 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. After graduation, he worked for Cargill, then Johnson and Johnson, and for most of his career, he worked at Dow Chemical Company.
Roland married Betty Linse on August 15, 1953, at Epiphany Lutheran Church in Eau Claire Wisconsin. They were married for 71 loving years and together they raised their four children in a Christian home, instilling the importance of their faith.
Throughout his life, Roland treasured his family and above all his relationship with Christ. He was an active member in his church, teaching Sunday School, attending church and Bible study faithfully, and participating as an usher and elder as well. While living in Fort Wayne, he watched church services online or on TV and was an active participant in Bible studies at the facility in which he lived. He continued to read his Bible every day and when he was no longer able to read, he would ask someone to read it to him. Roland showed Christian love to all whom he met.
Roland is survived by his children, Pamela Loesel (Gregory), Dr. Mark Preuss (Kimberly), Nancy Maier (Walter), and Julie Arndt (Scott), his ten grandchildren, and fifteen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Betty, his parents, and his sister.
Visitation for Roland will be from 10am-11am on Monday, June 22, 2026, at Cornerstone Lutheran Church Carmel – 4850 E. Main St., Carmel, IN, with a funeral service immediately following at 11am. A graveside service will take place following the service at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery – 9700 Allisonville Rd., Indianapolis, IN 46250.
