Robin Smith

Robin Rea "Robo" Smith died at Methodist Hospital at 5:30 PM on Friday, August 12, as the result of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident at West 56th Street and Georgetown Road at 4:30 PM on Tuesday, August 2, 2011. He was the son of Merritt W. "Redd" Smith of Plymouth, and Sally E. (Land) Smith of Knightstown, and the younger brother of Carson C. Smith. Robin was born in Rushville on Sunday, July 22, 1956. His family lived in Knightstown for five years, and moved to Indianapolis in 1961, where his father was a Vice President in the National Accounts Division of the Indiana National Bank and, later, President and CEO of Baldwin & Lyons, Inc. "Robby", later known as "Rob", and finally "Robo", attended John Strange Elementary School (1962-68), Northview Junior High School (1968-71), North Central High School (1971-74), and Indiana University (1974-75). He worked for the Carter-Lee Lumber Co., Hall & House Lumber Co., Furrow Building Materials, Morgan-Wightman Supply Co., Advance Printing Co., Specialty Coating Systems, and most recently, Thermal Structures. He was a member of ABATE of Indiana, the Harley Owners Group (HOG), the American Legion Riders Post 34, the Fukarwee Tribe, and the Bored Meeting. He is survived by his brother Carson C. (Patty) Smith, nephew Alexander C. (Steffanie) St. John, and nieces Sara and Liddy St. John. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Methodist Health Foundation, P.O. Box 168, Indianapolis, IN 46207, or to the charity of your choice. Visitation is scheduled from 5:00-8:00 PM with Memorial Services to follow at 8:00 PM on Friday, August 19 in the Veterans Room and Solarium at Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Center, Broad Ripple, 1305 E. Broad Ripple Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46220, phone (317) 475-4475. The dress code for Visitation and the Memorial Service will be Motorcycle Apparel or Business Casual.
