Roberta J. DeSchryver

Roberta Jeanne DeSchryver, age 94 passed away peacefully in Fishers, Indiana on July 1, 2025.

Born on May 10, 1931, in Omaha, Nebraska, Roberta was a spirited and compassionate woman whose life was defined by love for family, commitment to community, and an entrepreneurial spirit. She graduated from Junction City High School in Junction City, Kansas in 1950. Her journey took her to Long Beach, California, and then to Detroit, Michigan, where she met her husband, Harry J. DeSchryver. They married on October 31, 1959, and later settled in Indianapolis in 1963, where they built their life together.

Roberta was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She had a deep love for her grandchildren and took pride in her family’s accomplishments.

A natural leader and entrepreneur, Roberta and her husband owned and managed several restaurants. She also worked as Executive Assistant to the President of Blackburn Architect’s for over 30 years.

She is survived by her children: Charles DeSchryver, Robert DeSchryver (Kelly), Mary Carlson (Brad), and Suzanne Knighton (Wally); grandchildren: Candace Kavanaugh (Steve), Tyler Fox, Stephen DeSchryver, Charlie DeSchryver, Max Carlson, Alyssa Carlson, and Tyler Knighton; great-granddaughter, Bella Anastasio; brother-in-law, Gary Blust;

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 41 years, Harry J. DeSchryver; her mother, Lou Ann Cunningham; and sisters, Marcie Semeraro (Bart) and Betty Blust, and brother Robert Grant.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 8th, 2025 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm with service and burial immediately following, at Flanner Buchanan - Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, 9700 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis, IN 46256.

Roberta’s life was a testament to the power of family, faith, and community. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.
