Robert "Bob" Whitlow

Robert “Bob” Whitlow passed away on May 20, 2024.  He was the son of Herman (Peck) and Ruth Whitlow and was born in Martinsville, Indiana on September 26, 1933.  He graduated from Martinsville High School in 1951.   

He graduated from Indiana University in 1958 with a BS degree in Business.  He passed the CPA exam and in 1959, earned a Master’s in Business from IU and was a Life Member of the Indiana University Alumni Association.  Bob was a partner in the public accounting firm of KPMG retiring in 1985 after 26 years of service.  He taught accounting at IUPUI from 1986 to 1988. 

In retirement, he served in many volunteer capacities. He served on the Board of the Indiana CPA Society for six years, including two years as the Treasurer and as President in 1980.  He served six years on the Indiana State Board of Public Accountancy. In 1987 Indiana Governor Robert D. Orr presented Bob with the Sagamore of the Wabash, the highest honor a governor could bestow at the time.  He received the Distinguished Service Award from the Indiana CPA Society in 1989 and was inducted into the The Presidents Circle of Indiana University in 2016. 

As a member of Meridian Hills Country Club, he served on the Board of Directors for three years including one year as President. Bob served on the Board of Governors of Palm-Aire Country Club for six years including three years as Treasurer and three years as President.  He was a member of Castleton United Methodist Church serving as their treasurer for multiple years.

He is survived by his four daughters: Shelley (Myron) Martin, Lisa (Cathy) Whitlow-Hill, Lynn (Rick) Roeder, Sue (John) Lord, his ten grandchildren: Jason, Nathan, Bryan, Kyle, Claire, Kayla, Nick, Kalvin, Katie, and Berkeley and his 6 great grandchildren: Liam, Noah, Neel, Theo, Edy and Marty.  He is also survived by his special friend Alice Fleener and his sister, Nancy Adkins.  He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Diane, who passed away in May of 2015.   

Bob was an avid golfer, loved playing cards and followed spectator sports with a special passion for his Hoosiers.  Go IU!
