Robert Sweeney

Robert (Bob) L. Sweeney was born on August 4, 1936, in Mt. Vernon, IN, and passed away on November 20, 2023, in Greenfield, IN surrounded by the love of his family.

He was preceded in death by Patricia Sweeney, his loving wife of 69 years. 

He is survived by his children Jan (Danny) Owens, Brian (Elena) Sweeney, and Kevin Sweeney. Grandchildren Julie (Kyle) Johnson, Katie (Dan) Arthur, Allie (Dustin) Sweeney, Danielle (Kenny) Baldwin, Bo Owens, and Viktor Sweeney. Great-grandchildren Mackenzie, Colton, Kendall, Liam and Baby Baldwin. Sister Linda Hemphill and Sister-In-Law Shirley Ford, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

A craftsman by trade and hobby, Bob was a 30+ year member of Local 60 Carpenter’s Union and retired from Santa Rosa. He spent his retirement years traveling with his wife and crafting beautiful and treasured gifts for his family. 

Bob was, without a doubt, the life of every party, and his vibrant spirit and infectious enthusiasm left a lasting impression on everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. A man of many talents, he could often be found singing his heart out, bringing smiles and laughter to those lucky enough to witness his performances. 

A cherished family tradition was Bob's annual transformation into Santa Claus every Christmas. Dressed in the iconic red suit, he delighted his grandchildren with the magic of the season, embodying the true spirit of giving and joy.

Bob's legacy is one of love, laughter, and a commitment to family. While we mourn his passing, we celebrate the incredible life he lived and the countless memories he leaves behind. In the hearts of those who knew him, Bob will forever be remembered as a loving patriarch, a skilled craftsman, and the life of every party. 

Services to honor and celebrate Bob's life will be held on Friday, November 24th at Flanner Buchanan - Washington Park East (10722 East Washington Street, Indianapolis, Indiana, 46229). Visitation will be from 11 am -1 pm with services following at 1:00 pm.
