Robert "Bob" Paul Metrick

June 5, 1973 — September 19, 2023

Fishers

Robert “Bob” Paul Metrick, 50, of Fishers, IN passed away September 19, 2023, after a six-year battle with lung cancer, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Syracuse, NY to Robert Paul Metrick and Loretta Judith Arleen (Greene) Metrick. He attended East Syracuse-Minoa High School and Onondaga Community College. He worked at Coca-Cola for 26 years, mainly as a truck driver. He moved to Indiana with his family in August of 2020 where he was a School Bus Driver for a year for the Noblesville School District. In August of 2021, he started his dream job for Prosafe CDL as a CDL Examiner.
Bob was an avid Harley-Davidson rider and was able to fulfill one of his bucket list rides by going to Sturgis in 2021. His Harley was his escape and happy place. He loved his family, especially his children. He loved attending their sporting events and even coached his daughter’s softball team and son’s basketball team when they were younger. He also enjoyed golfing, travelling, and doing home improvement projects with his wife. He ran multiple half marathons, including one in Vermont, 3 months after finishing chemo treatments in March of 2018. He was also a member at Burn Boot Camp of Fishers, where he worked out with his wife almost daily, until April of 2022.
He was the strongest kindest, most selfless man we knew. He was an amazing husband, father, son, brother, and friend. He would go out of his way to lend a helping hand to anyone at the drop of a hat. He fought a long courageous battle with lung cancer for 6 years and he never, ever complained about his circumstances or what he was going through. He would always joke with the medical staff and always give the disclaimer to all his doctors and nurses to take nothing he said seriously. No matter how many times he got knocked down he always got right back up and tried to always have a positive attitude. He truly was Superman and will always be remembered that way.
Bob was predeceased in death by his brother, Michael in 2018. He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Jenn (Woythal) Metrick, children; Caitlyn, AJ, Makenna and Nathan, parents; Bob and Judy Metrick, his sister Cathy Hobart, sister-in law Michelle Creary, nephews and niece; Thomas, William, Nicholas, Ryan, and Emily and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
To our family, friends, and surrounding communities:
On behalf of our beloved Bob, we want to thank each of you for your love, kindness, thoughtfulness, and encouragement that has been displayed the last six years in our time of need. Bob was loved by so many. He set the example of putting others first and lending a helping hand at the drop of a hat. So many of you have come to us and told us how Bob helped you in a time of need, encouraged you when you needed it, or simply sat and lended a listening ear.
We would like to especially thank the doctors and nurses at Hematology-Oncology Associates of CNY, his medical team at OSU and his Oncologist and medical team at IU Schwarz Cancer Center and the ICU doctor and nurses at IU North for your compassion and amazing care for Bob and our family. We would also like to thank the Burn Boot Camp of Fishers Community for your amazing support over the last year and half. You truly are a community like no other. Our family is truly grateful for all of you and all you have done for our family.
On behalf of the Metrick Family, it is our hope that Bob’s legacy lives on. May we appreciate his selflessness and allow his example to be a model for our own lives. Bob brought the people together through a singular focus for unity, brotherhood, and love. Your demonstration of those principles has been an incredible comfort to our family over the past few days.
Memorial contributions may be made in Bob’s name to the IU Health Joe & Shelly Schwarz Cancer Center, 11645 Illinois St, Carmel, IN 46032.
