Robert Leslie "Bob" Marshall, 87, of Zionsville, died December 8, 2011. Bob was born February 18, 1924 on a farm in Fayette County, Indiana to Robert Harvey and Ruby Fern Schlegel Marshall; they preceded him in death as did his sister, Mary Bell Marshall Loney.
Mr. Marshall was a 1942 graduate of Richmond High School. While at Richmond, Mr. Marshall attained the rank of Eagle Scout, an accomplishment he was very proud of. After high school, Bob faithfully served in the United States Army during World War II. He was wounded by a German Sniper at the Battle of the Bulge for which he was awarded a Purple Heart. Upon return from his service, Bob attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. While at Miami, he was a founding member and served as the first president of the Acacia Fraternity on Miami's campus. In 1948, he graduated with a business degree majoring in accounting.
His accounting background served him well in his roles as Director of Internal Auditing at Anacomp, Inc. and Bindley-Western Inc. ; Senior Internal Auditor at P.R. Mallory Inc and Stokely-Van Camp; and as a partner in the firm of Marshall-Wilkinson Associates in Richmond. Bob held Indiana Public Accountant License #7
Mr. Marshall was a member of the Zionsville Christian Church; Life Member and Past Commander of Harry Ray American Legion Post 65 Richmond, IN; Past Commander of D.A.V. Chapter #66 in Lebanon, IN; Life Member of VFW Post #1108 in Richmond; a Life Member of Oxford, OH Masonic Lodge No. 67; and a Life Member of Royal Arch Mason Chapter No. 21 in Hamilton, OH.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 65 years Estelle R. Brockman Marshall; they were married March 28, 1946. Also surviving are his children, Debra Kay Marshall Mullen, Rex Alan Marshall (Lisa), Paul Leslie Marshall (Karen), and Chuck Arthur Marshall (Stephanie); his grandchildren, Cherish Mullen, Gary Marshall, Allison Marshall, Marcee Marshall, David Marshall, Lauryn Marshall, Jacob Marshall, Adorea Mullen, Reese Marshall, Aubrey Rawlings, and Shelby Turner.
Visitation will be from 10 am to 12 pm, Saturday, December 10, 2011 at Flanner and Buchanan-Zionsville, 105 W. Pine St., Zionsville, IN 46077 with a funeral service beginning at 12 pm. Burial with military honors will follow the funeral service at Earlham Cemetery in Richmond. Memorial contributions may be made to Zionsville Christian Church, 120 N. 9th St., Zionsville, IN 46077.
