Dr. Robert M. Weetman, 73, of Indianapolis, passed away on Thursday, October 4, 2012. He was born on October 20, 1938 in Springfield, MO to the late Leslie M. and Helen M. (Murrell) Weetman and was raised in Clewiston, FL. Bob was a graduate of Hanover College and the University of Cincinnati, College of Medicine. He served as a Medical Officer in the U.S. Air Force (Tachikawa, Japan) prior to beginning his rewarding career as a Pediatric Hematology-Oncology Professor at Indiana University School of Medicine (1970-1998). Through teaching, research and tireless dedication, he impacted the lives of children with cancer and their families at James Whitcomb Riley Hospital for Children. In 1987, he was awarded the Sagamore of the Wabash. He was a humble man of faith, generous with both his time and resources, who gave many years of service as a member of John Knox Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Barbara (Thayer) Weetman; children, Susan (John) Huesing, David (Maria) Weetman, Beth (Reid) Kelley; grandchildren, Anne, David, John, Jake, Lauren and Megan; sister, Georgia Weetman (Leslie Langley); and brothers, John (Barbara) and James (Annie) Weetman. Bob will be remembered fondly by the many people whose lives he touched as a loving and caring father, a wise and talented physician, a devoted husband, and loyal friend. Visitation will be Monday, October 8, 2012 from 3 to 7pm at Flanner and Buchanan – Speedway. Funeral services will be held at John Knox Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at 1pm. Burial will follow in Old Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to John Knox Presbyterian Church, American Brain Tumor Association or Riley Children's Foundation.
