Robert Lee Gregory Sr. was born in Indianapolis July 17, 1931 to Rudolph and Lillian Gregory with siblings Rudolph Jr. and Jeannie.
He attended Indianapolis Elementary School and Crispus Attucks high School.
Spiritually, he attended and was baptized at St Bridges Episcopal Church when he was 10 years old. He later joined Corinthian Baptist Church where his wife belonged and became a devoted member, serving wherever he was needed.
After school, Robert enlisted in the U.S. Army for 3 years (5/50 – 5/53), later enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he served for 4 years (9/55 -8/59). He developed a passion for photography while being utilized as a photographer in the Air Force.. After getting married, he was the family photographer for weddings, births and all other special events.
He was hired by the U.S. Postal Service in 1958; where he met, fell in love and married Delores Smith on February 25, 1961. This February, they happily celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary! Hallelujah! They lovingly parented 3 sons; Anthony (deceased), Robert Jr and Kevin; 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Each and every one of them were special to him as he counseled and exhorted them to be and do their best in all endeavors. His Faith in God exemplified spirituality, kindness, generosity, uprightness and forgiveness.
The Post Office promoted Robert from a clerical position to PEDC Instructor, to Open Mail Unit Supervisor. He then he became an Address Information Analyst which is the position he retired from in 1987. He was highly respected. He had many friends there.
Robert, an avid bowler, enjoyed golf also as part time activity. Many bowling tournaments and trophies were won In Indiana and other states. Frustration was the usual result of golf outings.
At Nu-Corinthian, he serviced as an Elder. Robert regularly attended Sunday School, Bible Study, Prayer Meetings and was actively involved in Seminars and Conferences. As a member of the seasoned Saints he and Delores went on numerous out of state trips/participated in Bible study group/enjoyed attending sporting events and going to restaurants for holidays and special occasions. He truly loved his Pastor, First Lady and church family. He willingly served in whatever way he could to be useful and supportive of the other church ministries.
Robert had many friends, dating back to Fayette Street in the neighborhood where he was born. They have remained in touch with one other, attending breakfast meetings and luncheons when they were physically able. His church family was special to him also; staying in touch with him after he lost the ability to walk and attend church services. He knew they loved him and help was always available to him if needed.
He was congenial; loved and endeared by his family, church members, neighbors and acquaintances. We are certainly sorrowful since he is no longer physically present with us, BUT, we know we’ll be re-united with him in heaven.
He was preceded in death by his father Rudolph Gregory, mother Lillian Fennel, son Anthony Gregory, brother, Rudolph Gregory and sister, Jeannie Duke.
