Robert L. Owen

Robert L. Owen, Sr. 86 of Carmel, went home to be with his Lord Sunday, April 28, 2013. Bob was born March 22, 1927 in College Grove, TN to the late Homer and Edna Owen. He was a graduate of Columbia Military Academy. Bob served in the US Army during WWII and was a 1954 graduate of the University of Tennessee. Bob was President of Walters and Co, retiring in 1984. Prior, he was a District Manager for Carnation Foods. He was a member of the Carmel Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and the Murat Shrine. Bob was an avid golfer, playing almost every day since his retirement. He was also a huge sports fan, passionate about the Colts. Bob was a world traveler and especially enjoyed his travels to Europe. Bob had a great sense of humor and was a wonderful family man; he loved his sons and his grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm Thursday, May 2 at Flanner and Buchanan-Carmel, where family and friends are invited to gather from 5:00 to 8:00 on Wednesday, May 1. Bob was the widower of Nancy Roach Owen. He is survived by his sons, Lee and his wife Jean and Mark and his wife Pat Owen; grandchildren, Stephen R. and Melanie A. Owen; significant other, Jackie Abbett; sister, Katherine Sanford and her husband, Buddy; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Edwin and William Owen.
