Robert D. Kohl, affectionately known as Bob, passed away peacefully at home on June 22, 2025, surrounded by his loving family, after a lengthy and hard-fought battle with cancer and pulmonary heart disease. Born on October 8, 1942, Bob dedicated his life to his family and community, leaving behind a legacy of love, craftsmanship, and devotion.

Bob's professional career spanned over three decades as a Millwright at Farmall in Rock Island, IL, and Navistar in Urbana, OH. He proudly held a Journeyman’s Accreditation as a Millwright from Blackhawk College, retiring after 34 years in 2003. His commitment to his craft was matched only by his dedication to his family.

An accomplished craftsman, Bob often spent his free time in his garage, making gifts and custom items for his family that included cherished toys and stools. His craftsmanship was a testament to his love, creativity, and desire to create lasting memories for his children and grandchildren. Bob was also known for taking his grandchildren fishing during their younger years and eagerly supported them in their various activities.

Bob served his country honorably in the US Army during the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1968, where he was part of the highly decorated Combat Infantry, 1st Battalion, 8th Cavalry. His service was recognized with several honors, including the Bronze Star, Army Air Medal, and Army Good Conduct Medal. His military service was just one example of his commitment to others, which permeated all aspects of his life.

As a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Bob cherished time spent with his family. He loved engaging in conversations about sports, particularly his beloved Chicago Cubs, and instilled valuable life lessons in his children and grandchildren. Bob's wit and dry humor enriched the lives of those around him, leaving behind joyful memories that will be fondly remembered.

Throughout his early years, Bob enjoyed playing basketball and baseball with his brother Jack and cousins. His love for his family was evident through traditions like taking his grandchildren to the State Fair each year on the train, creating special days filled with laughter and adventure before the return to school.

Bob's contributions extended beyond his immediate family. He was an active member of the Carmel VFW and the Fishers American Legion, demonstrating his commitment to honoring service members and supporting his community.

He is survived by his loving wife, Karen Kohl; daughters Kimberly Kohl (Ken Link) and Laurie Venetis (Jeff); sons Christopher Dearborn (Ruthy) and Jason Dearborn (Betzy); brother Jack Kohl; sister Dana McBride; grandchildren Brad Adams (Sara), Joey Venetis (Amanda), Taylor Adams, Gina Farber (Nick), Nathan Link, Noah Link, Tehsa Grutter, and Audrey Dearborn; along with three great-grandchildren.

Bob was predeceased by his parents Daniel and Helen Kohl and his previous spouse, Anita Kohl.
