Robert K. Gray, 87 of Zionsville, went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, August 9, 2012. Bob was born June 8 1925 in Blocher, Indiana to Ansel and Helen Hansell Gray. He grew up in Deputy, IN and graduated from Deputy High School. He attended Butler University and was a WWII Navy veteran.
Bob was a member of the Indiana State Police Department from 1951 – 1973, retiring at the rank of Major, in charge of the Investigation Division. He went on to work as the Director of Security for Guarantee Auto Stores, Inc. from 1973- 1989, and managed the Distribution Center of the Indiana State Lottery from 1989 – 1995. Later, he volunteered for the Carmel Police Department.
Bob was Past President of the Pioneers of the Indiana State Police, member of the FBI National Academy Associates of Indiana, Past President of Harvard Associates in Police Science and was named Sagamore of the Wabash by Governor Whitcomb.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm Tuesday, August 14 at Zionsville Fellowship (9090 E. State Road 334, Zionsville), where friends and family are invited to gather from 11:00 am until the time of the service.
Bob is survived by his wife, Hazel; daughters, Beth Syphers and Sue (Dion) Wickliff; grandchildren, Matthew C. (Rachel) Beauchamp, Thomas A. (Kristy) Williams and Minda (David) Hoffman; great grandchildren, Tom, Erica, Jacob, Maggie, Max and Cooper; sister, Irene Huckelberry. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Richard Syphers and three brothers.
