Robert John Lather

August 31, 1921 — March 6, 2013

Robert John Lather 91, passed away March 6, 2013. Mr. Lather served during WWII in the Army Air Corps, discharged as Captain in May 1, 1946. He went on to serve in the U.S. Air Force Reserve for 25 years, retiring as a Lt. Colonel. He was a locomotive engineer for the New York Central, Penn Central and Conrail railroad when he retired after 41 years. He was a member of the American Legion, Reserve Officers Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars Lodge #729 F& AM, and Scottish Rite-Murat Temple-Legion of Honor. Mr. Lather was a 1949 graduate of Indiana University with a BS degree. He volunteered With the Boy Scouts when his son was involved, and was a volunteer driver for the American Red Cross for 18 years. He also volunteered with the local USO. After retirement, Bob enjoyed playing tennis with the Silver Foxes, and cards afterwards. Bob was predeceased by the love of his life and wife of nearly 62 years, Wilma, and his son Robert J. Lather, II. He is survived by his daughters, Jo Ellen (Lather) Kerr of California, and Kristina Lather, his grandchildren, Nigel, Lauren and Adam Laskowski, Robert J. Lather III, Breanne (Lather) Miller and Charles R. Kerr. He has two great grandsons, Ethan and Connor Laskowski. Calling will be held on Tuesday March 12, 2013 at Flanner and Buchanan-Speedway from 4 to 8 pm followed by a funeral service on Wednesday March 13, 2013 at 10 am. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the IU Foundation, Robert J.
