Robert J. “Bob” Humble. Bob was born in Indianapolis to Jesse Lewis and Irene Irvin (James) Humble on August 11, 1932. He was married to the late Carolyn Quillan Humble who preceded him in death in 1972. He married Shirley C. (Farley) Humble on July 15, 1978, she preceded him in death in 2020.
Bob proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He served 18 months in Korea during the Korean War. He was with the 27th Infantry Regiment – 25th Infantry Division in Intelligence and Recon Platoon as Sergeant and Squad Leader. He was a Charter Life Member of the 27th Infantry Regiment Historical Society, “The Wolfhound Pack” and a life member of the 25th Infantry Association. One of his greatest joys was the opportunity to go on the Honor Flight in April 2015. Bob also volunteered driving for the Voluntary Service through the local vets group. After his service, Bob was a tool trouble mechanic for Allison Transmission General Motors for 41.5 years, retiring in May 1992 as a member of UAW Local 933. He could fix things or engineer things that often amazed his family.
He was an avid helper at the Chapelwood Baptist Church of which he was a long-time member. Bob was a jack of all trades with a quick dry sense of humor. He volunteered with the Southern Baptist Disaster Relief Team and CERT Hendricks County team, where he helped with the clean-up of Hurricanes Ike and Katrina as well as local storm damaged areas.
He is survived by his son Richard (Carla) Humble and step-daughters, Annette (Tim) Vance and Teresa (Amanda Johns) Duncan, grandchildren Christopher and Nicholas Horrigan, Daniel, Ryan, and Hana Humble and Jassica Cox. He had three great grandchildren, Scarlett Horrigan, Maliky Humble and Hunter Cox. He is also survived by sister-in-law, Jo Linda (Donnie) Kirby. Bob was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Anna Margaret (Jack) Averitt. Brother and Sister-in-Laws, Larry Farley and Willa Dean McCombs.
Bob’s family would like to say thank you to some individuals for their assistance and support during the last year including Lucy Duncan, Bruce and Barbara Horswell for their continued visits and assistance in watching over him, and the lady across the street for her visits and always bringing him milkshakes when he asked, Sandy Bredlow.
